“A History I Am Not Able to Write”: Vocabulary and Rethoric Strategies in José Ramón Fernández’s J’attendrai

Abstract

El presente trabajo pretende ofrecer los resultados de un estudio sobre los aspectos formales de J’attendrai de J. R. Fernández, en el que se pondrán de relieve las estrategias lingüísticas y retóricas que permiten al autor superar su declarada incapacidad de escribir y lograr dar forma a la memoria. Nos centraremos, por un lado, en el tejido léxico, iper-connotado y de fuertes resonancias simbólicas, por el que se establece un vínculo entre memoria individual y colectiva. Por otro lado, se analizarán las estrategias elocutivas, en sus componentes intradramáticos y metadramáticos, que dan lugar a la recreación de los personajes dentro de una dramaturgia compleja hecha de proyecciones y retrospectivas. 

This paper aims to offer the results of a study on the formal aspects of J. R. Fernández’s J’attendrai, that will highlight the linguistic and rhetorical strategies that enable the author to overcome his confessed inability to write and shape memory. I will focus, on the one hand, on the lexical structure, iper-connoted and with strong symbolic resonances, by which a link is established between individual and collective memory. On the other hand, the eloquent strategies will be analysed, in their intradramatic and metadramatic components, which give rise to the recreation of the characters within a complex dramaturgy made up of projections and retrospectives.
