Contemporary Hispanic Theatre Facing the Scenary of the Israeli-Arab Conflict

Abstract

El conflicto árabe-israelí es uno de los escenarios de guerra de más larga duración en nuestra época contemporánea, todavía abierto ya que no se ha llegado a una solución definitiva y pacífica entre los contendientes. El propósito de este trabajo es analizar un corpus de obras teatrales españolas actuales relacionadas con este enfrentamiento, con el fin de indagar el vínculo que los autores ibéricos han establecido con un horizonte geo-político bastante alejado de la realidad española. La hipótesis es que el teatro hispánico se ha acercado a la representación de este conflicto, todavía presente, a través de la conexión histórico-cultural con la memoria de la Shoah. 

The Arab-Israeli conflict is one of the longest-lasting war scenarios in our contemporary era, still open as no final and peaceful solution has been reached between the contenders. The purpose of this paper is to analyse a corpus of current Spanish theatre works related to this fight, in order to investigate the link that the Iberian authors have established with a geo-political horizon quite removed from the Spanish reality. The hypothesis is that the Hispanic theatre has approached the representation of this conflict still present through the historical-cultural connection with the memory of the Shoah.
