Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the use of the Spanish Past Simple (pretérito perfecto simple) and the Spanish Present Perfect (pretérito perfecto compuesto) along with the temporal modifiers esta mañana (this morning), hoy (today) and ya (already). The study focuses on the counties of Ávila and Zamora, which allows to contrast results obtained in a typically Castilian region (Ávila) and in a region with Leonese properties (Zamora) using maps in annex.  This way, it has been possible to prove that some Western properties are still in force in the West of Zamora, being this the case of the use of the Spanish Past Simple alongside the afore mentioned temporal modifiers. Furthermore, varying agreement of temporal modifiers in combination with the Past Simple has been verified.
