El objetivo de este artículo es investigar las soluciones que se han ofrecido a la problemática gramatical que se deriva de la confrontación de los tiempos verbales pasados entre el latín y el español. El dilema acontece por la codificación de un único pretérito perfecto en latín frente a la oposición en español de dos pretéritos, uno simple y otro compuesto. Para este fin se ha examinado un corpus de 39 gramáticas que contraponen el sistema verbal de ambas lenguas desde mediados del siglo XV hasta 1798.
The aim of this paper is to investigate the solutions that have been offered to the grammatical problem that is caused by the confrontation of the past tenses between Latin and Spanish. The dilemma arises because of the codification of only one verb tense for past in Latin and the existence of two past tenses in Spanish: one simple, and another compound. 39 grammar books have been examined in order to contrast the verbal system of both languages from the middle of the 15th century until 1798.
