Abstract

The author starts from the tradition of oral story, from reprocessing of folktales conducted by Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, as well as from the picaresque literature and Don Quixote, with the Russian tradition, Dickens, Expressionism and film neorealism or Spanish literary version, to compose a timeless story that is not located in any specific time, but which deals with feelings. It is essentially a Bildungsroman, although it can be read as the story of the loneliness of a child who remains alone without his family. So, Pulgar (Thumb), the orphan protagonist, ends up being aware not only of the losses that war brings, but also of the abandonment of the war. This ‘fable of children for older’ could be read as an optimistic story in which the pure feelings predominate. Would become the demonstration that the goodness and innocence can triumph over evil, and that the kingdom of childhood, their strength and gifts, is the ingenuity and saving purity and goodness, which should not be lost over the years.
