Erotism, Violence and Language in Pía Barros's Short Stories

Abstract

Partiendo de la hipótesis de que Pía Barros busca aportar una voz subversiva al discurso patriarcal, este trabajo analiza cinco cuentos breves de la escritora chilena recogidos en las dos primeras colecciones de Barros, Miedos transitorios y A horcajadas. Este trabajo examina la representación literaria del cuerpo femenino y las relaciones de poder que este genera así como el contenido intimista y erótico que dichos textos comportan con el fin de reclamar la voz femenina silenciada y marginalizada.

Starting from the hypothesis that Pía Barros seeks to provide a subversive voice to the patriarchal discourse, this paper analyzes five short stories by the Chilean writer included in her first two collections, Miedos transitorios and A horcajadas. This paper examines the literary representation of the female body and the power relationships it generates, as well as the intimate and erotic content embedded in these texts, in order to claim the female voice that has been silenced and marginalized.
