Islamismo versus arabismos en la lengua española en la España del XVI y XVII

Islamism versus Arabicisms in the Spanish Language in the Spain of the 16th and 17th centuries

Abstract

El presente trabajo pretende hacer una aproximación a algunas de las obras lingüísticas de los siglos XVI y XVII, especialmente obras lexicográficas, para conocer cómo la ideología sobre la cultura islámica y el conocimiento que se tiene de la influencia de la lengua árabe en la lengua española se apoya más en valores construidos a favor de los intereses sociales, políticos y religiosos que se establecen y rigen la sociedad española de esta época, que estrictamente en cuestiones lingüísticas. La incorporación del léxico árabe al castellano estuvo claramente motivada por la necesidad de designar los muchos conceptos nuevos que llegaban de Al-ándalus, ante lo cual resultaba más apropiado tomar las voces de la lengua vecina con la que se compartía territorio, si bien, esto generó diferentes apreciaciones.

The present study some linguistic works of the 16th and 17th centuries, especially dictionaries, to know the ideology about the Islamic culture and the knowledge of the influence of the Arabic language in the Spanish language, and see how it is more supported by social, political and religious interests than strictly linguistic issues. The addition of arabic vocabulary to Spanish language was clearly caused by the necessity of designating new concepts which arrived from Al-andalus, faced with this situation, it was more suitable to take words from the neighbour language, with which the territory was shared, but it was given different appreciations.
