Abstract

En el marco de las reescrituras de material épico-caballeresco procedente del Romancero, el trabajo se propone analizar Gerineldo, obra dramática estrenada en Madrid en 1908, fruto de la colaboración entre dos autores de esta época, Cristóbal de Castro y Enrique López Alarcón. Como sugiere su título, Gerineldo es un drama inspirado en el homónimo personaje, protagonista con la Infanta de una afortunada serie de romances. Los dos autores acuden al Romancero, reelaborado a través del filtro Modernista, y con marcados acentos melodramáticos y de lirismo, para satisfacer las expectativas del amplio público del Madrid de aquello años. Después de una escueta semblanza de los dos dramaturgos, se desentrañará la tupida red de relaciones intertextuales que la pieza teatral mantiene con el Romancero y con otros textos muy conocidos de las letras hispanas.

In the framework of the re-elaboration of epic and chivalrous material belonging to the Romancero tradition, this paper aims to analyze Gerineldo, a play performed for the first time in 1908 in Madrid. The play was written by Cristóbal de Castro and Enrique López Alarcón, two dramatists of that period. As the title suggests, Gerineldo is a play inspired by the character, namesake, starring a famous series of ballads with the Infanta. The two authors resort to the Romancero through a Modernist perspective, with noticeable emphasis on melodrama and lyric elements, in order to satisfy the interests of their public. After a brief biography of both authors, the article will tackle the dense system of intertextual relationships the play maintains with the Romancero tradition and other famous texts of Spanish literature.
